I watched Zoolander (2001) last night.
Believe it or not it’s the first time I’d seen it.
I like Ben Stiller and I’ve seen and liked a lot of his films. This one though, I’ve tried to watch a number of times over the years but for some reason I just didn’t “get it”.
I had this exact same thing with Anchorman (2004). It must’ve been on either my fourth or fifth attempt of watching it that the penny finally dropped and I suddenly got the humour.
I wonder if again, it’s down to my expectations of the films. Both are cult classics now and had been hyped up a lot by friends etc prior to watching them.
It’s mad to think I didn’t find Anchorman that funny to start off with because I think it’s hilarious now!
Anyway (I digressed again) as I said, I watched Zoolander last night and for whatever reason I finally “got it” and really enjoyed it.
If you haven’t seen it it stars Ben Still (Night at the Museum), Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers), Christine Taylor (Dodgeball) and Will Ferrell (Anchorman) as well as a whole host of other famous names and faces!
Here’s a short and sweet synopsis courtesy of IMDb:
“At the end of his career, a clueless fashion model is brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia.”
There’s obviously a lot more to it than that and I’d be here all day trying to explain it in more detail but if like me you’ve avoided it all these years, it’s worth giving it a chance.
A satire on the fashion industry, it’s just a silly, fun film with a load of quotable lines and another excellent performance by Will Ferrell as the movie’s villain, Mugatu! 😆
I’ve heard the sequel isn’t very good. Has anyone seen it? Is it worth watching or should I just stick with the first one...? 🤔
