Twin Films: Deep Impact vs Armageddon (1998)

Every now and again two movies come out around the same time that have very similar, if not near identical storylines but are released by different studios. These are known as “twin films”.

The phenomenon of the “twin film” is usually attributed to a number of things like two production companies investing in similar scripts at the same time, industrial espionage, the movement of staff between studios, the same script being sent to several different studios before being accepted or just coincidence based on topical issues.

Over the coming weeks I’m going to be posting some examples and we can have a good old discussion about them in the comments (which one was better etc...)

I’ll kick it off with Deep impact (1998) and Armageddon (1998).

Both came out in 1998 and both are disaster movies where the end of the world as we know it is threatened by a giant asteroid hurtling towards the Earth.

Each film approaches the issue from a different perspective but which is the better movie?
