Last night as part of my Sam Rockwell obsessive phase (this is getting weird I know), I watched The Way Way Back (2013) on the recommendation of someone on my Facebook page.
It’s a heart warming comedy/drama that also stars Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense) and Liam James (Horsemen) among others.
Here’s what it’s about courtesy of IMDb:
“Shy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and her boyfriend's daughter. Having a rough time fitting in, Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen, manager of the Water Wizz water park.”
I loved this film!
Sam Rockwell is just so likeable in this movie! He’s the hero that someone like me would love to be.
With each movie I see him in I’m blown away by how diverse he is as an actor. He can play despicable and loveable with the flick of a switch.
Steve Carell who’s known for playing more likeable characters is also great in this film as the falsely friendly step-dad, while Liam James’s portrayal of an awkward and confidence-lacking 14 year old boy is both endearing and totally convincing.
If you like films that make you laugh and at the same time pull on the heart strings you should check out The Way Way Back. 👌
Thanks for a great recommendation. 🙌
Here’s the trailer but be aware it doesn’t do the film the justice it deserves.👇
