The Twelve Films of Christmas (Day 8): The Grinch (2000)

It’s day eight of my Twelve Films of Christmas countdown and in 5th place is:

The Grinch (2000)

They seem to have changed the title to this film over the years. When I went to see it at Exeter cinema all those years ago it was called “The Grinch” - now it’s called “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”.

Jim Carrey (love him or hate him) is absolutely brilliant in this film!

It’s directed by Ron Howard (Apollo 13), narrated by the fantastic Anthony Hopkins, has a beautiful score by James Horner and is just mega Christmassy!

I always leave it as close to Christmas as I can to watch this one coz I love it so much!

Film Fact: Josh Ryan Evans who played the 8 year old Grinch in the movie was actually 18 years old at the time. He had a condition called Achondroplasia (a form of dwarfism) which gave him the voice and appearance of a child. Tragically he died in 2002 during a medical procedure from complications related to a congenital heart condition.

Taylor Momsen, the actress who played Cindy Lou Who went on to front her own rock band called The Pretty Reckless. She looks a lot different these days...

I love the opening scene of this movie and the score by James Horner is beautiful!
