The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

The Shawshank Redemption (1994).

I’ve seen this movie many times and I never get tired of it. It’s a masterpiece!

However, as good as it is I’m always questioned by people as to why it’s not in my top 10 favourite films of all time (and this happens often).

Firstly I think it’s odd to question someone’s favourite anything because usually it’s not a choice, more a feeling about it that makes it a favourite. It’s like asking someone why they don’t like a certain food.

Let me explain...

My top 10 favourite films are films that I can watch time and time again without ever getting tired of them. They’re films that have had a big impact on me, have a nostalgic quality or just generally make me feel good for whatever reason. In fact some of them are a mixture of all those things.

My top 10 isn't comprised of films that I feel should be on the list because they’re well acted, well directed award winners that are generally regarded by everyone else as “the best films”.

This is what makes everyone’s top 10 unique.

If my top 10 list was based on well acted, well directed masterpieces then The Shawshank Redemption would certainly be on there, but it’s not.

It would probably make it into my top 20 though.

What’s your favourite movie of all time and why?
