The River Wild (1994)

I watched a film last night that I haven’t seen in ages!

The River Wild (1994)

I’m not sure why but I’ve had a real itch to watch this movie the last few weeks.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s an adventure/crime/thriller starring Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada), Kevin Bacon (Hollow Man), John C. Reilly (Step Brothers), David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park) among others.

This is what it’s about:

A young family on a white-water rafting holiday in Montana are taken hostage by a pair of dangerous fugitives who try to force the mother, a proficient rafter, to use her skills to help them escape down the treacherous rapids.

I’ve said before on here that I love these survival/thriller type movies! I don’t know what it is about them but I just love the outdoor element and the whole “man vs nature” thing. This film has all of that, plus a couple of dodgy geezers with a gun and a bag full of loot. 💰

Kevin Bacon is great in this movie (he’s great in most things to be fair). He’s one of those actors that can seemingly pull of both good guy and bad guy roles convincingly. In this film he’s actually strangely likeable despite being a total ass@le. Having said that, John C. Reilly deserves a mention. That guy can pretty much turn his hand to any genre! 🙌

Meryl Streep takes the lead in this though as a wife and mother caught in a desperate situation.

Her character, “Gail” is tough, but not so tough that you know right from the beginning that she’ll beat the bad guys.

The movie has thrills, action, adventure, some nice cinematography, and if you’re anything like me it’ll make you want to go on an adventure holiday!

It’s a really easy watch and another of those great 90s films that does a good job of entertaining without having to try too hard.

If you have t seen it I recommend giving it a watch. 👍

Seen it? What do you think? 🤔
