Serendipity (2001)

So in the comments of my John Cusack/star of the week post yesterday (Facebook) there was a lot of love being displayed for one of his films that perhaps isn’t so well known as some of his others.

Serendipity (2001)

Now as you know I’m a bit of a sucker for a bit of mush and this film has exactly the right amount of it! In fact, along with The Wedding Singer (1998) Just Friends (2005) and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) I’d say it’s up there as one of my all time favourite romantic movies (I wouldn’t technically call it a romcom).

If you haven’t seen it, it stars John Cusack (Con Air), the lovely Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), Jeremy Piven (Entourage) and Molly Shannon (Never Been Kissed) among others.

Here’s a short and sweet run down of the story courtesy of IMDb:

“A couple search for each other years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day they'd end up together.”

As with a lot of these film synopsise I “borrow”, they don’t sell the film as well as they could and that’s particularly frustrating with this one because it’s a brilliant movie!

The story’s great, the characters are relatable, the performances from the actors are believable, and if this film doesn’t bring out the romantic in you I’d suggest put your hand on your chest and check to make sure you actually have a heart beating in there...😳

As if all that wasn’t enough the soundtrack is also really good featuring songs from Nick Drake, Bap Kennedy, David Gray and Annie Lennox. 👌

P.S. Some of the film is set at Christmas and although that doesn’t make it a Christmas movie, it does make it a good one to watch on the lead up to the big day. 🎅🏻🎄🎁

Give it a go. You know it makes sense! 👍

If you’ve seen it and love it, feel free to add to the peer pressure in the comments.👇
