Today’s Valentine's Day Movie Countdown choice has been a bit difficult.
I’ve always known which film was going to take the top spot but there are so many great romantic comedies/comedy dramas that it’s hard to choose which ones to feature - especially when down to the last three.
This one was never in question and it almost made it onto my 12 films of Christmas back in December.
Just Friends (2005)
Before Ryan Reynolds was Deadpool, he was making a name for himself in romcoms like Definitely, Maybe (2008), The Proposal (2009) and this one.
If you haven’t seen it, it stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Amy Smart (Road Trip), Anna Faris (Scary Movie) and Chris Klein (American Pie) among others.
This is what it’s about:
After confessing his love for his best friend Jamie (Amy Smart) at a high school graduation party, “chubby” Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) is left humiliated and leaves town.
10 years later he’s a good looking (but shallow) successful record executive living in L.A with a strategy for avoiding the “friend zone.”
Whilst escorting his old flame and air-headed/diva pop princess Samantha James (Anna Faris) to Paris, the plane makes an emergency landing in New Jersey, Chris’s home town. He runs into Jamie in a bar and sees a chance to finally be more than just friends.
I know I say it all the time but this film is hilarious! The way Ryan Reynolds reverts back to an adolescent teen as soon as he’s back living with his mum (Julie Hagerty from Airplane) is brilliant!
As good as he is though, it’s Anna Faris who makes this film so good, she’s absolutely superb!
Chris Klein is also highly entertaining as Dusty Dinkleman (the other guy in town vying for Jamie’s affection), and Chris Marquette who plays Chris’s younger brother provides some really funny moments too.👌
As if all that wasn’t reason enough to watch it, the soundtrack is also well worth a listen. 👍
If you haven’t seen this movie you seriously need to give it a watch. If you have, let me know what you think.👇
