I just watched Judy (2019).
It’s not the sort of film I’d usually put on but it was on TV and I got sucked into it.
I really enjoyed it, although it’s very sad.
It stars Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland and is set during her five week run of sold out concerts at the Talk of the Town nightclub in London, six months before her death from a barbiturate overdose age just 47.
The film gives real insite into Judy Garland’s life and how she was pushed to perform from an early age.
Renée Zellwegweger is brilliant in it and deservedly won a number of awards for her performance.
I just read that both of Garland’s daughters, Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft have snubbed the film for various reasons. It does focus on her struggles rather than her high points and I guess you can’t blame them for feeling protective of their mother’s legacy.
Either way it’s a good watch if you fancy something biographical. 👌
