Read the MovieWeb article here.
As you might be aware The Thing (1982) is one of my favourite films of all time. 👌
I recently read “Who Goes There?”, the book that it’s based on by John W. Campbell, and last year I watched the first movie adaptation, The Thing from Another World (1951).
They’re all great in their own right and it’s interesting to see the similarities, as well as the vast differences between them all.
Despite my love for all things “The Thing” I feel somewhat conflicted about the idea of a sequel to John Carpenter’s sci-fi masterpiece. 😳
There’s currently a remake/reboot in the works, but reading this article and hearing John Carpenter talk about a sequel to his original movie does get me a little excited…
The problem for me is that in true Hollywood style you just know they’d want to get either Kurt Russell or Keith David back to ensure success, or at least get people interested. My issue with that is that to involve either of those actors in a sequel would be to ruin the ending of the original, which in my opinion is one of the things that makes the movie so good.
I would however be interested in seeing a sequel that sees new characters return to the research facility (or what’s left of it) and reference the events of the previous film without ruining the legacy of it.
There are quite a few ways they could go that would work.
Are you a fan? If so, what do you think? 🤔
