I haven’t posted about it till now but I’ve been absolutely loving The Last of Us on Sky Atlantic!
I'll be watching the last episode of the current season tonight and I’m gutted! Fortunately though the show has already been given a second season, but that might not be such a good thing…
If you haven’t been watching it, The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic horror/drama/adventure/thriller series starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones). They’re supported by a whole host of superb acting talent across 9 episodes.
This is what it’s about:
After a global pandemic that turns the infected into zombie-like creatures destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity's last hope.
If you weren’t aware, the show is based on the PlayStation video games of the same name which came out in 2013 and 2020 respectively. Both were critically acclaimed upon release with the the first considered one of the “greatest video games ever made”. Unfortunately, along with a few other titles I’d love to play, the games are PlayStation-only titles which means that since I own an Xbox, I’ve been unable to play them…until now.
After toying with the idea for a year or so, yesterday I bought myself a second hand (but in great condition) PS4 console along with a few of the games I’ve been wanting to play for years (God of War III, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and of course, The Last of Us).
From what I’ve been told, the second game seriously divided fans (and critics) over its “narrative and themes”. Now, having not played either of the games I don’t know what happens, but from the memes I’ve seen online and from what people have told me it could be upsetting.
If the second series of the show follows the game as well as I understand the first one has, we could be in for some heartbreak.
Like I said, I don’t know what’s to come, I’m simply speculating. If you do though, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POSTING SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS.
I plan on using the time between seasons to play through both games so I guess I’ll find out what happens soon enough. Part of me though likes not knowing what’s to come. This is one of the few video game to movie/TV show adaptations that I haven’t played and it’s been great to have been able to enjoy it for what it is rather than constantly comparing it to the source material.
