First Image of Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven in the Upcoming The Crow Remake Gets Negative Reactions from Fans

Bill Skarsgard in The Crow remake

In case you weren’t aware, a remake of The Crow (1994) is currently being filmed starring Bill Skarsgård (IT, John Wick: Chapter 4).

Last week an image of Skarsgård who’s playing the iconic lead character, Eric Draven was released, throwing the internet into chaos.

The original movie, The Crow starring Brandon Lee was based on the 1989 comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr. Tragically as we know, Lee was killed during the filming of the movie when a prop gun that hadn’t been checked properly discharged the cap of a dummy bullet round that had been used for a previous shot, hitting him in the abdomen.

Because of the tragic nature of his death, and also because of the movie’s enduring legacy, a remake of the film has understandably been met with a lot of mixed feelings.

On top of all that, the image released last week of Skarsgård as the new Eric Draven is such a departure from the way Brandon Lee looks in the original that it’s got already worried fans even more concerned.

Even Lee’s co-star Rochelle Davis who played Shelly Webster, Draven’s ill-fated fiancé in the 1994 cult classic has been vocal about her distaste for the character’s new look, telling TMZ it looks "dingy, dirty, grungy".

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind this is just one image we’ve seen from the upcoming movie. So often these days we’re too quick to judge and make up our minds about films that we haven’t even seen yet.

I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed with the look they’ve gone for but I like Bill Skarsgård and am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I love the original movie and can never watch it without a heavy heart that we not only lost the lead actor, but also that he never got to see the film or benefit from the opportunities I’m sure it would’ve brought him.

What do you think of Eric Draven’s new look? Is a remake necessary and do you even plan to watch it? Let me know in the comments.
