Don’t Let Go (2019)

I watched a really good film on Monday afternoon. 👌

Don’t Let Go (2019)

Since the rain and blustery winds scuppered my beer garden plans, my other half and I were flicking through things to watch on Sky and she suggested this. It’s one of those films that we put on knowing nothing about and it turned out to be really good.

If you haven’t seen it, it stars David Oyelowe (Jack Reacher), Storm Reid (The Invisible Man), Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump) and Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2) among others.

Here’s what it’s about:

When Detective Jack Radcliff’s niece Ashley is killed in what appears to be a murder-suicide, he’s distraught. A few days later he receives a call from Ashley’s phone and is shocked and amazed to hear her voice on the other end, seemly alive and well.

Trying to make sense of what’s happening Jack discovers that somehow Ashley is several days in the past, meaning the crime hasn’t happened yet.

Seeing a chance to change Ashley’s fate, Jack must try to piece together what happened in the hope that he can now prevent it.

I really enjoyed this movie and it grabbed me from very early on.

It reminded me a bit of Deja Vu (2006) but with a slightly different twist, and less sci-fi and more drama/thriller.

David Oyelowe is excellent in the lead role and does a floorless American accent (I actually had to look him up to confirm it was definitely him). His grief and desperation is totally believable, and his chemistry with the young and talented Storm Reid carries the film making you care for and route for both of them.

All in all a surprisingly enjoyable film and definitely one I’d recommend watching if you like a good mystery/thriller with a touch of sci-fi.👌
