Currently watching: Unforgiven (1992).
I’m actually not a big fan of the western. By that I mean it’s not a genre that I lean towards but I do like the odd film when I see it. This is one of my favourites.
If you haven’t seen it, it stars Clint Eastwood (who also directs), Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption), Gene Hackman (The Firm), Frances Fisher (Titanic) and Richard Harris (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) among others.
This is what it’s about:
When a prostitute is disfigured by a pair of cowboys in Big Whiskey, Wyoming, her fellow brothel workers post a reward for their murder, much to the displeasure of sheriff Little Bill Daggett (Hackman), who doesn't allow vigilantism in his town.
Ageing former bandit and gunfighter, William Munny (Clint Eastwood) and his parters Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman) and The Schofield Kid come to collect the reward but end up clashing with the sheriff.
I remember watching my dad’s VHS copy of this film a lot as a teenager but it’s only now as an adult that I fully appreciate what a great film it is.
Gene Hackman, as much as he’s the villain of the story is my favourite character. I miss seeing him in films (his last film credit was in 2004). Everyone involved in this movie puts in an excellent performance though. 👌
If you haven’t seen it and enjoy a good revenge story, you should give this a watch. 👍
