Currently watching: Mr. Deeds (2002).
I love this movie, but then I love Adam Sandler. His films really tickle my funny bone. My favourite is Happy Gilmore (1996) but this, Anger Management (2003) and of course The Wedding Singer (1998) are all pretty close behind.
If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s a remake of the 1936 film, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town which itself is based on the 1935 short story, Opera Hat by Clarence Budington Kelland.
It stars Adam Sandler (The Wedding Singer), Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands), John Turturro (Transformers) and Peter Gallagher (While You Were Sleeping) among others.
This is what it’s about:
A sweet natured, small town guy (Sandler) inherits 40 billion dollars and the largest media company in the world from a distant relative he never knew.
He soon finds himself a fish out of water in the big city, where greedy businessmen try to manipulate him into signing over his controlling share in the company and the tabloids will stoop to new lows to get inside access to the new billionaire in town.
If like me you've got a silly sense of humour you're bound to be giggling all the way through it. It’s also extremely easy to watch and brimming with charm thanks to Adam Sandler’s extreme likability.
It might have a crap rating on IMDb but I like it and definitely recommend giving it a watch if you want an innocent family comedy with plenty of laughs. I also find myself quoting it on a regular basis.
“Sneaky sneaky, sir”
