Brightburn (2019)

I know this is a “movie” site but I’ve been watching season 2 of The Boys this past week and it’s brilliant!! I loved the first season but they’ve really ramped things up for this new one.

Why am I talking about a TV show? Well, because if you’re familiar with The Boys you’ll know that it’s about a world in which superheroes are like celebrities who aren’t all good and their power can sometimes go to their heads.

This got me thinking about a great film you may or may not have seen that’s definitely worth a watch if you like the idea of a superhero gone bad.

Brightburn (2019)

It’s written by Brian and Mark Gunn (brothers of James Gunn - Guardians of the Galaxy) and stars Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) David Denman (The Gift) and Jackson A. Dunn (Avengers: Endgame) among others.

Here’s the synopsis according to IMDb:

“What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?”

If you haven’t seen it, it’s basically a dark take on the Superman idea (child falls to earth from another planet, farm couple raise him as their own, he gets older, develops powers etc).

What I love about this film though is how someone thought, “What if superman wasn’t a good guy..?”

It’s creepy, tense, gory and just a great alternative to the usual superhero movies we’re used to seeing.

Seen it? What do you think?
