I thought I’d bring back a feature I used to do a couple of years ago:
These days it pretty much goes without saying that sequels are just an excuse to cash in on the success of the first movie rather than to further the story. This never used to be the case though (well, money’s always been a factor) but I remember when a sequel to a popular movie used to be something to get excited about.
With that in mind, over the coming weeks I’ll be posting these regular debates to see which sequels (if any) you guys feel surpassed the originals.
Let’s kick off with this one:
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) vs Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991)
You’ll notice I didn’t include the last instalment, Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) and there’s a simple explanation for that; it’s friggin’ awful! In fact it even beats Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) as one of the worst sequels I’ve ever seen! The first two however are brilliant!
I used to have the Bogus Journey poster on my bedroom wall as a teenager and would watch these movies on repeat. I’ve never been able to choose a favourite though…
Both are very different movies, but which is the best?
Does the duo’s first time-travelling adventure reign supreme, or is their quest to escape from the afterlife and stop the “Evil Us’s” a rare example of a superior sequel?
Let me know in the comments. Oh, and be excellent to each other.
