This is an old Australian tourism commercial starring Paul Hogan.
It’s also essentially the birth of his character Crocodile Dundee.
In the early 1980s while in New York, Hogan saw a poster of Koala bears advertising tourism in Australia. He didn’t think it was overly appealing so he set out to make a TV commercial himself. It was so successful he ended up making a bunch of them.
At this point in his career he was already well known in his own country through his comedy sketch show “The Paul Hogan Show” but Americans, for the most part didn’t know who he was until these adverts.
Tourism to Australia from the US rocketed as a result of these commercials and it gave Hogan the perfect audience for an idea he’d been toying with for a while, Crocodile Dundee (1986). 🤠🐊
