Last night I watched Alita: Battle Angel (2019).
I’ve been meaning to watch this film since it came out but, not knowing much about the story other than that it was written by James Cameron and has a fully CGI main character, I guess I wasn’t that drawn to it. I really enjoyed it though.
It stars Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Rosa Salazar (Bird Box), Jennifer Connelly (Blood Diamond) and Mahershala Ali (Green Book) among many others.
Here’s a rough description:
A deactivated cyborg (Salazar) from a past era is revived and awakens in a new body with no memory of her past.
With the help of Dr. Dyson Ido (Waltz) and some new found friends she sets out to find out who she “was” and uncover her destiny.
Not knowing all too much about this film I had a quick read up and found that it’s based on a Japanese Manga series from the 1990s called “Gunnm“ and its 1993 original video animation adaptation “Battle Angel”.
I can’t say I’m into all the Manga stuff but I enjoyed this movie.
It’s kind of like Blade Runner, Ex-Machina, Death Race and Real Steel rolled into one with the style of The Fifth Element.
Worth a watch if you fancy some visually impressive sci-fi adventure escapism 👍
